A day in the life of an earthworm

Just under foot, under the grass we walk upon, on farms and in the forest, in the uppermost layers of topsoil, earthworms live their lives while benefitting the ecosystem.  But what do they do all day long, all night long in the darkness?

In this video clip watch an earthworm eating its way through one of its tunnels.

Backstory: Early in September 2020 I noticed while on one of my morning walks a few dried out earthworms on the concrete path, they didn't make it across.  The next day I noticed 5 that barely alive, needed rescue. So I placed them in a glass terrarium at home filled with 50/50 mix of dirt, and potting soil.   Later I added coffee grounds. and two inches from the end of a cucumber.

I picked up the glass container on October 25th, found that the worms had dug tunnels in the soil, grabbed my iPhone and shot this zoomed in video.
